You must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 3 out of 5 years which is 1,095 days. As long as you have completed the 1,095 days to apply for citizenship, your permanent resident card could be expired when applying.
As a temporary resident, half of the time spent in Canada for a maximum of 1 year will count towards citizenship.
You must prove your English language ability by meeting the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4 or higher. You can also provide your high school diploma or a certificate from LINC (Language Instructions for Newcomers to Canada) class indicting that you have met the CLB level 4 requirement. You can also pay to complete specific English tests known as CAEL,
IELTS, CELPIP, etc. and must obtain CLB 4 for listening and speaking.
You must have filed your taxes for the three years prior to applying for Citizenship.
You must pass a Citizenship test if you are between the age of 18-54. Anyone who is older than 54 and younger than 18 does not need to complete the test. The Citizenship Test consists of 20 multiple choice questions and the passing mark is 15 out of 20.
